1994 Vickers 45'
A proven bluewater cruiser, we have lived aboard "Mangwana" with a family of five and completed a world circumnavigation between 1999 and 2007. "Mangwana" is built super strong and is ideal for extended cruising and living aboard and is setup to be easily sailed singlehanded. A link to some of our trip: http://demskiadventure.co.cc/
Designed by Dudley Dix and Built in South Africa by Vickers to very high standards ( This boat was used as the builders show hull for Lloyd´s of London Certification). The hull is very modern and features a long waterline for load carrying ability and performance potential. The waterlines forward are fine for good wave penetration and the stern is broad and powerful with drawn out sections for speed and good control downwind. The long wing keel gives a smooth ride and shallow draft and heaves to very well for safety and comfort in rough weather. Layout is of pilothouse configuration, with large master cabin aft. The VICKERS 45 has a raised saloon, kept within the cabin sides to give a view while sitting at the dinette. The workbench area well stocked with tools helps keep everything running smoothly.
The large stern dive/swim platform provides easy safe access to and from the dinghy and with the built in storage lockers for dive gear and freshwater rinse shower is the ideal launching point for diving adventures.
With 8 solar panels and wind generator providing energy the engine rarely has to be run just for charging the batteries.

There is still work to be done before "Mangwana" is once again ready for sailing as well as some cosmetic work on the interior. Since 2007 the boat had been sitting for a long period on the hard and had deteriorated from being unattended. Some leaks developed causing water damage to the wood in the Head, and parts of the aft cabin and galley. We returned in 2010 and were preparing the boat for a pacific cruise, part way through cleaning and refit of the vessel we were forced to leave early 2011 for family reasons.
