Ron and Kathleen embarked on a plan in 1998 to totally rebuild MAKAHIKI as a retirement home for cruising in the Caribbean, along with the occasional voyage across the 'pond' to their home in England. Trinidad and Peake Yacht Services would be the location for this project.

They agreed that re-sale value would not restrict the extent and cost of the work to be undertaken. Comfort and reliability would be the deciding factors.

Age! Ron remembers well he parents warning 'don't get old!!'

Ron has recently been diagnosed as having a medical disorder that will significantly affect his balance, not a condition  conducive to sailing!! So, with regret, MAKAHIKI will have to go.

They still plan to cruise the Caribbean but it will have to be in a power boat!!
